The new SCS Aquavoid storage tank has been designed specifically to meet the needs of sustainable construction as advocated by the UK Government and provides the means for rainwater, collected from roofs and pavements, to be infiltrated into the soil. Through infiltration of relatively clean water directly into the soil the sewage system is relieved of additional loads and drying out of the sub-surface can be prevented.
SCS Aquavoid is an extremely strong modular water-permeable polypropylene unit with a large storage capacity. With each unit capable of holding almost one third of a cubic metre Aquavoid is ideal for the rapid construction of large storage capacities whilst retaining the flexibility required by many schemes. Installed units are capable of withstanding very high loadings making it the ideal choice for retaining stormwater for SUDS applications.
The PrincipleThese underground storage units are wrapped in a 180g non woven, needle punched geotextile (SCS GT1900) to allow water discharge to the subsurface, but may not allow any soil or sand particles to go through. The box has a high bearing capacity and can easily be expanded in all directions.
The construction of the storage void is achieved by the use of the SCS Aquavoid, a geocellular high-quality synthetic rectangular box with dimensions 1.0m x 1.0m x 0.333 m (LxWxH) with a storage capacity of 0.333 cubic metres (95% void ratio). The standard loading capacity of 600 kN/m2 is sufficient for most situations, however this capacity can be increased if required to suit exceptional loading conditions.

SCS Aquavoid is ideal for bulk storage of stormwater in both attenuation and infiltration schemes. Buried 0.5m below the surface connections of any diameter can be made to the system. Ideal in amenity areas and even under car parks and HGV areas, the new SCS Aquavoid is able to take extreme traffic loading.
Following detailed assessment of the required volume of stormwater to be stored (see CIRIA C522, R156 & BRE 365). The total number of SCS Aquavoid units can be calculated using 3/m3 (1,000 litres). Decide on the best configuration for the characteristics of the site in question and create the “box” accordingly using the length and width dimensions.
SCS Aquavoid is suitable for landscaped and car park areas as well as heavier duty use. As a guide units require approx 0.5m of cover in landscaped areas and 0.75m cover in vehicular areas with a 75mm sharp sand base.
